Hyundai Santa Cruz

Engine Performance

You can’t talk about towing capacity without first learning what kind of power is behind it. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz has two available engines. The standard is the inline 4-cylinder powertrain with 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. This motor is only available with Front Wheel Drive, which means power only goes to the front wheels.

The second available engine is the inline 4-cylinder Turbo, which offers 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. This engine is available in Front Wheel Drive as well as All Wheel Drive, which means power is sent to both sets of wheels as needed.

Towing Capacity

The towing capacity depends on your vehicle’s engine and drivetrain. Whether you have the standard or the Turbo engine, you’ll have 3,500 pounds of towing capability to play with. That’s enough for a few snowmobiles if you want to shred some powder during those snowy Colorado winters.

However, you can increase your vehicle’s towing capacity to 5,000 pounds if you choose the Turbo engine with All Wheel Drive. Since both axles will get power, you’ll have more traction to work with and can haul a bigger load. With that extra 1,500 pounds, you could bring along a small hard-side RV or a small recreational boat for some summer fun on the water.

Towing Safety Tips

To get the most from your towing vehicle, there are a few things you can do to help. You’re likely already doing the best thing you can do: keeping your truck well maintained. When you set out to tow, be sure your vehicle’s tires are in good condition with plenty of tread.

Before you head out on the road, make sure your trailer lights are hooked up correctly. After all, the best way to tow is to tow safely. Since you’re hauling an extra load, your vehicle’s engine is going to be working harder, too, so make sure it isn’t overheating. Your truck is just like you, and it needs rest after working hard.
