Hyundai Santa Fe Interior Seating

Interior Space and Design

Midsize SUVs provide just the right level of roominess without losing their aerodynamic feel and performance. This is especially true when talking about the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Edge. Meticulously crafted to utilize every square inch, both deliver seating for up to five passengers along with plenty of cargo space.

In the back seat, each SUV provides nearly identical headroom and legroom—however, front-seat passengers will really notice a difference in space. Offering 44.1 inches of legroom compared to the Edge’s 42.6 inches, the Santa Fe simply has more room to grow.

On the topic of growing spaces, the Santa Fe’s 60/40 power-folding rear seats fold flat to effortlessly expand your useable cargo space up to 72.1 cubic feet. Got your hands full? Use the available hands-free smart liftgate with auto open and adjustable height setting and go about your day.

Hyundai Santa Fe Tech

Entertainment Technology

From shuttling the kids between after-school activities to packing up for a weekend in the mountains, the Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Edge find creative ways to connect you to what you love.

For instance, both SUVs come standard with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ across each trim level. You’ll also find the Bluetooth® hands-free system to make streaming music and taking calls seamless.

To keep you fully charged for the long road ahead, the Santa Fe and the Edge also offer an available wireless device charging pad with multiple power docks.

One place where the Santa Fe pulls ahead is the 12-speaker Harman Kardon® Premium Audio system with Quantum Logic® Surround and Clari-Fi™ Music Restoration Technology. With this, your cabin can quickly transform into your favorite music venue no matter where you are on the map. The Edge offers a similar B&O™ sound system with 12 speakers, though it does not feature some of the same sound technology.

Hyundai Santa Fe Driving Off Road

Premium Comfort

If you’re evaluating your SUV options, you could be interested in heading out on long road trips. As such, you’ll want to learn more about the amenities that will keep you comfortable on those longer treks. Both SUVs offer available power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats. Using these, you’ll be able to seamlessly find your ideal seating position and adjust it as you go to keep yourself comfortable.

Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Edge offer available heated front and rear seats. Equip your SUV with these, and you’ll be ready to tackle the icy morning commute or wintery weekend adventure. However, you’ll want the ability to adjust when the weather heats up, as well. Only the Santa Fe will allow you to do this, offering available ventilated front seats that will cool down your seating surfaces.

You’ll also find a difference when it comes to seating surfaces when examining these SUVs. The Edge comes with normal cloth seats that’ll provide a comfortable ride. The Santa Fe also comes with cloth seating, though the cloth is made with stain-resistant cloth. This not only provides comfort, but also adds some stain resistance, which will be helpful whether the kids spill a juice box or you track in salt in the winter.

Driver-Assistive and Safety Features

In order to truly feel comfortable behind the wheel, you’ll need some peace of mind knowing that you’re safe and secure. In order to provide you with this, these SUVs come with a number of great features, including:

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Rear View Camera
  • Lane Keeping Assist

You will find some features on the Santa Fe that don’t come standard on the Ford, though. These include:

  • Smart Cruise Control
  • Rear Occupant Alert
  • Driver Attention Warning

The Driver Attention Warning, in particular, is a great addition, and not available at all on the Ford. This system is able to monitor your driving behavior, detecting if you’ve become tired or fatigued. It then alerts you to this behavior and prompts you with a message that it could be time to take a break from the roadways.

Performance and Efficiency Specs

Sporty and agile, each SUV comes standardly equipped with capable engines and 8-speed automatic transmissions. Drivers looking to add an extra dose of oomph to their commute can opt for the Hyundai Santa Fe’s Turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Equally impressive is the Santa Fe’s ability to start early and run all day without a fuel-up. When properly configured, drivers can expect up to an EPA-estimated 25 city and 28 highway MPG.* By comparison, the Ford Edge comes close, but can’t quite go the distance, earning only an EPA-estimated 21 city MPG.

While there is this slight difference regarding the MPG these two SUVs earn, you will find an added fuel efficiency feature in both.

The Santa Fe and Edge come configured with Idle Stop & Go systems. These will work to detect when you’ve come to a sustained stop, shutting down your engine to preserve fuel. Then, when you’re ready to resume driving, the engine will turn back on automatically when you press down on the accelerator.

This system will come in handy in areas with:

  • Heavy traffic
  • Frequent red lights
  • Crowded parking lots
